Raymond Phillips Sanderson (Born 1908) was active/lived in Arizona, Missouri.  Raymond Sanderson is known for Sculpture-industry figure, mural.

Born at Bowling Green, Missouri, Raymond Phillips Sanderson spent the major part of his art career in Arizona where he was known for wood and bronze sculpture and mural painting.

Among places holding his work are the Valley National Banks, the Symphony Hall in Tempe, and the War Memorial at the University of Arizona in Tucson.  Leaving Chicago in 1932, he lived first in Bisbee and later became a resident of Scottsdale.  In 1973, a retrospective of his work was held at the Arizona State Art Museum.

He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Kansas City Art Institute.  In 1935, as a WPA artist, he completed a life-size figure sculpture titled The Arizona Miner, (also known as Copper Man) which was placed near the Cochise County Courthouse in Bisbee.  He had little money to complete the work in bronze, so he molded it with cement and sprayed it with molten copper, a process of the Phelps Dodge Corporation whose copper mines were in Bisbee.   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 6908 characters.]  Artist bio
